I had gone through a divorce the year prior. He had been my best friend for years but drinking took over and it was exasperated by COVID and working from home. I moved out of state to be nearer to my elderly Mom and her husband, who was starting to show signs of Alzheimer's. My daughter had graduated from college and moved to another state. I was still working full time, although remote. I was not feeling very together or on top of anything.
