"She Taught Me Chords" is an ode to my favorite childhood piano teacher. I am blessed with parents that have always encouraged me to follow my passion in singing. In that my mom put me in piano lessons very young learning all the classics- Bach, Beethoven, Mozart which was great for recitals but not what the very precocious young Katie was learning piano for. At about 12 I told my Mom that I was going to quit, to which she replied, "Just one more teacher, and if you still don't like it... Maybe your instrument is Guitar!" Enter Susan, a very kind, small, always in a sweater lady, who when confronted with a very opinionated Katie was able to ask if I had ever been taught chords. For those that aren't musically inclined- chords are the base of every song, most commonly three notes stacked together and repeated in a pattern. Extremely important as all other instruments build out from there when making a song. If Susan had not taken the time to hear me, I would not be able to make the music that I do, record the music that I do or preform it in a way that feels natural. You can find my music on all streaming platforms under "Kathryn", more music coming out soon!
