“don't tell me I can't do it”

It's sort of been the story of my life. Imagine a young girl, maybe 8 or 9 who decided to sing up for an on line "sell these dresses" program (think 1951 or so) and went door to door to do so. My parents knew nothing about it. So when a check arrived for the proceeds....well, no one told me I couldn't do it. Around the same time I was busy writing stories as well as using my small printing press to do weekly newsletters for my grammar school. I loved "Four Star Theater" and David Niven so in long hand I wrote a treatment for the television show and sent it in to the network. When producers showed up at my door in Hollywood with a contract and payment my parents were shocked. They had no idea I had done this. No one told me I couldn't. Don't tell me I can't is the philosophy I live with. When I started my own business in event planning (where I met Dear World) I charged everything on credit cards. I had left a thriving partnership for ethical reasons and my ex-partner did everything in his power to make sure I would fail including hefty lawsuits. End of story, he went bankrupt and I founded one of the largest meeting/event companies in the world. I can go on and on....but I'll stop for now.
