Our phone lines lit up the next day. Our poor volunteer staff were just inundated. They didn't know what to do. They were used to people calling in to say Is today the day we do STD testing? Do you have Alcohol Anonymous meetings this evening? There were people on hold for ten minutes, minimum, waiting to get answers. Leslie, one of our lead volunteers. I don't know how to handle this call. It's a mother asking where her son is. Have we heard from her son? I took the phone. Ma'am, I apologize, but at this time we have not heard from your son. But if we do, we will take down your number and call you back immediately. Of course, we never did. And that haunts me. ****************************************** At the time of the shooting, Rob Domenico was a board member of The Center in Orlando, which promotes the wellbeing of the Central Florida Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities.
