“I danced to the beat of someone's death”

The first three shots: I thought it was music. I felt the bass in my body on the floor against that wall. I felt it. I saw it. I thought it was the music. Then glass shattering, the air filling with smoke. The flashing of the gun that looked like a strobe light. Everyone getting down. * When I went to run, I hit the table, and I fell down. I made it past the bathroom. I looked in and people were piling up. I could have gone in that bathroom, but I kept going until I found the patio. Once I got out there, I was pushing up against that fence and everything was so fast that I remember being on one side and then I remember being on the other. I didn't even look back. I just kept running. I can still hear the gun firing. Pow, pow, pow, pow, pow. * I come from a strong, rooted family of military and farmers and those that care about how you're brought up and how you're raised. I went through Scouts, learned about teamwork. No man is left behind. Doesn't matter who they are. One woman I tried to keep conscious. "What's your favorite animal?" A lion. "What's your sign?" Taurus. "What day were you born?" I learned what day she was born. I still know what day she was born, but I'm not going to say it. * My dad said “These people are contacting me through Facebook. They said that you saved their daughter and their niece and they want to connect with you." "Well if they can tell you the birthday, Dad, then it's real. Because I didn't tell anybody her birthday." It was right. Okay, give them my number. It was her aunt from Cleveland who called. You saved my niece. She's alive. She's with her mom right now. I just happened to be at the same place at the same time when it happened. I would have done it for anybody. ******************************** Chris Hansen is a survivor of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting.
