“Ski with me”

In 1997 I was in college at Fordham University in the Bronx, NY and I suggested to my then boyfriend, now husband (Steve) that we should go skiing together. I didn’t grow up in a ski family but did try skiing a few times with a high school ski club and I liked it. Steve had never been skiing. We decided to schedule a weekend trip to a small ski resort in Pennsylvania. We arrived at the resort (Shawnee) and I quickly realized that Steve was having fun, but he did not understand the rules of the slopes.. crashing into a fellow skier to stop is very much frowned upon. ☹ After that initial day Steve was hooked and wanted to spend most of his free time skiing. He planned a ski trip to CO for spring break with buddies and another ski trip to UT with me (pre 2002 Olympics) meanwhile skiing locally almost every weekend. During our ski trip to Utah in Dec 2000 Steve proposed to me at Alta on the Sleepy Hollow trail and of course I said YES! We skied together often and married in Sept 2002 with the intention of moving to Salt Lake City in December 2002 to start married life out together and experience life away from NY/NJ where all of our family was living for a year or two. Fast forward to 2026 and we live at the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon; we are a family of 4 who LOVES to ski and Steve took his passion and turned it into a career working for both Deer Valley and Luxury Development for the Deer Valley expansion. I never suspected that the question “Will you ski with me?” would have been such a pivotal moment in our lives 😊
