My grandmother's name was Bettye. She was the matriarch of our entire family. In 2017, I started to notice that she was ageing albeit gracefully into her early 90's. I've always appreciated her steadfastness and her ability to navigate any storm. She was a tough lady, that also embodied the kindness of an angel. She never met a stranger and worked through a Senior program for the Missouri Ozarks County where I'm from, until she was 90 years old. The younger ladies who worked alongside her, appreciated having her in the office every day. She probably gave them the same comfort that she provided to our entire family every single day of her life. I was very fortunate at my age to still have a living grandparent. Many of my friends had parents who were in their 80's, and I had a grandparent in her 90's. At this point I was in the highest point of my career, traveling for business a lot and not getting to travel back home as often as I wanted to. I made sure that every time I visited, she was the point of my trip and I knew she would always be the highlight of my trip. We lost her in March, 2020 at the peak of COVID. Thankfully, not to COVID, but simply to the normal aging process of life. I'm very thankful to have had so many memories with her, which I will never forget. I hope to remind others, take a moment and "Hug Your Grandma" as the number of hugs left in her or your own life, grow smaller each day. Bettye was a special person and our entire small town in Missouri looked up to her. I hope she's looking down on all of us right now, with a big smile on her face and sending assurances to us all, that all will be well.
