Dear Kindness, We met a woman named Tracy at a company called National Life in Vermont. She told us about her daughter Camille, a bright high school student who smiles easily and seems to notice the people others overlook: janitors, lunch ladies, people who help check out at the store. It's just always been her thing, her mom tells us. One of the school lunch ladies once celebrated a birthday. Camille made her a card. A few weeks later the cafeteria ran out of bacon during BLT day. Bacon is Camille's favorite food. Kids in line complained and said things that weren’t very kind to the lunch lady. When Camille reached the counter, she shrugged and said, "I'll have a salad." The lunch lady leaned in and smiled. “For you, sweetie, I have a plate of bacon in the back.” Sincerely, Robert X. Fogarty
